Shinglehall Boris, named after newly elected Mayor of London Boris Johnson, really is a super chap and is likely to mature nearer the 16hh mark. His sire, Utah van Erpekom, is the International coloured stallion currently ridden to great success by John Whittaker and we are very much hoping he will follow in his footsteps. The bloodlines are there and he certainly has the movement and athleticism together with a fantastic temperament to make a top class performer.
Boris attended the BEF Futurity Younghorse Evaluations in 2011 as a three year old. It was his very first outing and was the highest placed 3 year old for all disciplines gaining him a Higher First Premium, and ranked 3rd overall in the whole series for showjumping three year olds. The judges thought he had 'clear rhythm and good fluency' in his walk, his trot was 'rhythmic with nice drive off the hind leg' and his canter was 'fluent and light'. Boris displayed a 'willing' attitude and the judges thought his jump 'elastic, with good technique and good hind leg and reach in front'. He scored a very credible 9.25 from the vet and an overall score of 8.75.
Boris was lightly backed Autumn 2011 with special thanks to Nick Moon, of Finchingfield Equestrian Centre, who has been very pleased with him and says his canter is unbelievably advanced. Boris shall have the winter off and further his education in Spring 2012.
We hope to have Shinglehall Boris graded in 2012 and will have very limited mares in his first season.
